Anthony is the head coach at CrossFit Utica and has been involved in sports for as long as he can remember.  From a very young age, he participated in a wide variety of sports, from tennis to football.  In 9th grade, Anthony decided to focus on playing football and dedicated his off-seasons to strength and conditioning.  His tireless work ethic allowed him the opportunity to play college football.  Playing football and studying physical education in college secured the idea that Anthony wanted to help others in their quest to move better and be healthy.

In 2006, Anthony moved to Brooklyn where he was a public school physical education teacher and coach of football and track and field.  He was very fortunate to spend those ten years fine-tuning his teaching/coaching skills with aspiring elite athletes.

Before opening CrossFit Utica, Anthony was a coach at CrossFit 718 in Brooklyn for 2 years. Anthony has experimented with a variety of different programs and fitness activities. It wasn't until early 2013 that Anthony caught the CrossFit Bug. He had found something he had been searching for since he ended his college playing career, the opportunity to compete and the camaraderie of a team/family.  He instantly fell in love with the exciting team atmosphere that CrossFit promotes and was hooked.  CrossFit has inspired Anthony to adapt as a teacher/coach and he is looking forward to helping the people of Utica move better and become their best selves.


Julie SeamoN

Julie has been involved in athletics in some capacity for nearly 20 years. Her pursuit to become a professional bodybuilder led to health issues that would set her on the path she travels today. Unwilling to continue sacrificing her health, Julie stepped away from the imbalanced life she created and while working to heal herself Julie decided to try Crossfit in early 2013, after a friend’s persistence. Julie quickly realized that Crossfit was the platform she had been searching for to share her experiences. She set out to teach and promote sustainable, healthy lifestyle habits and her passion lies in helping create success stories. Julie truly believes in the Crossfit methodology and community it creates.  

Julie strives to create an atmosphere of inclusion for all athletes. With a quirky and light hearted attitude she hopes to initiate the type of laughter and sharing among athletes that builds relationships and promotes healing.

Julie believes “it is through these relationships we can reach our fullest potential. And at the end of the day, that is why we are here. To push ourselves, to push one another and to help teach each other how to be better humans. We are not only looking to move better but to be better – mentally, physically, and emotionally. What better way to do this than through Crossfit. I truly believe Crossfit has the ability to change lives - at any age or level of experience.”

Julie is committed to helping athletes at CFU realize their potential. She cannot wait to hear your stories, what the best part of your day was – and to find out what makes you laugh!  Outside of CFU she can be found working on her family’s dairy farm, reading one of the numerous books sitting on her nightstand or simply enjoying a good cup of coffee.


Tyler Kallasy

Tyler has always been interested and active in the world of fitness and health. From the moment he could walk, Tyler has been engaged in both competitive and recreational sports. As he grew up, football won his interests and he eventually played at the collegiate level. He has since graduated and is currently working toward is Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Utica College, right up the road! Along with training in the off seasons, Tyler was a competitive power lifter and at one time held the state squat record for his weight class. 

When college ended, he found himself missing that competitive quality of both football and powerlifting. Eventually, Tyler gave CrossFit a try right here at CFU and fell in love with it immediately. He admires CrossFit for its ability to crossover into real world, everyday human movements. Tyler believes one of the greatest things about CrossFit is that it can be scaled to anyone and everyone’s ability.  

CrossFit has become another opportunity to help others become better versions of themselves both physically and mentally. Tyler hopes to bring his knowledge of the human body, his experience as an athlete and his passion for health together to do just that.


Mike Canino

CREDENTIALS

Born in Highland, New York, Michael was very active throughout his childhood, taking part in a variety of sports. In high school, he wrestled, played football, and baseball. At the conclusion of his first year of high school, Michael felt the normal gym routine was not giving him the results he needed to reach his aspirations of playing college baseball.

In the summer of 2012, with the help of his older brother, Michael found CrossFit. The highly competitive, intense workouts resonated with him as well as the tight knit community. He was an avid CrossFitter throughout his high school years, working out at CrossFit Mid-Hudson, in the hamlet of Highland. After three years of hard work, dedication and working on his craft, he earned the privilege of playing college baseball.

In the summer of 2015, Michael began to coach at his local box. The idea of supporting people in becoming healthier and stronger was a growing interest that he has continued here in Utica. He is currently a Health Studies major at Utica College.
